I have not wanted to admit it, but atlas summer is over. Soon the leaves will change their hue. Autumn’s change parallels the change we need to make in regards to our skincare as colder and drier weather approaches. This change is all about proper hydration and repairing the damaged caused by improper sun protection. My Favorite Fall Skincare Picks: NuFace Trinity: If you are feeling melancholy as cold and drab weather approaches, here is a device to get excited about. This device is FDA cleared to simulate the skin with the use of micro-current to help tone and contour the face. Goodbye jowls! I am only a week into my NuFace use, so stay tuned for a full review! Cellex-C 2-step Starter Kit: If you are a sun-worshiper feeling guilty about what you did not do to protect yourself this summer and are dealing with hyperpigmentation, now is the time to combat that damage. Also if you have an oily and acneic skin type, which is left with the dark marks of a pimple’s past, this two-part treatment is perfect for you. This combo is oil-free, contains vitamin C to combat free radical damage and will brighten the appearance of the skin. All while reducing the signs of photo-aging. ilike Sour Cherry Gel Mask: If autumn has you craving a harvest of fresh fruits and veggies, this organic mask will not disappoint. Honestly it is hard to resist eating this mask as it contains real cherry skins. The scent is amazing! Normal/ combination skin will benefit from the fruit acids and honey. Mybody Protect and Serve: Just because summer is over, there is no excuse to not properly protect yourself from UV exposure. This tinted mineral sunscreen has a creamy texture and dries matte. It can be applied alone or before your makeup and can be used by sensitive skin, aging skin and acneic skin alike. Acure Moroccan argan stem cell + argan oil Shampoo and Conditioner: Alright, this is a year round favorite, but I figured if I did not include something with pumpkin, I would catch some flack! Safe for color treated hair, this combo has an almond scent and a rich creamy texture and lather. Pumpkin seed oil nourishes with Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. Shine and manageability improves all while being sulfate free and cruelty free. ilike Sour Cherry Cleansing Milk: During the muggy summer months skin’s oil production is in high gear. If the gel cleanser that left you squeaky clean in July, now has you feeling tight and over sensitized, it may be time to change to a creamy cleanser. This milky cleanser gently removes impurities and makeup without depleting hydration within the skin. Salicylic acid fights acne while vitamin E provides anti-oxidant protection. Just like the Sour Cherry mask, this cleanser smells good enough to eat! Peter Thomas Roth Rose Stem Cell Bio-repair mask: This gel mask cools and hydrates all skin types while multiple rose extracts and stem cells, work to soothe the skin and fight the sign of premature aging. This mask is very versatile. It is a great morning pick-me-up! I recommend storing the jar in the refrigerator prior to application and leaving it on for 10 minutes. Or in the PM it can be used as a sleeping mask overnight, for serious rose benefits! Blog Written by askderm's in-house Esthetician  Chantal Monique is a NYS licensed Esthetician and Makeup Artist. Just like you switch up your wardrobe to work for the changing seasons, it's important to do the same with your skincare regimen. While summer skincare is all about sun protection, fall brings its own challenges - repairing any summer skin damage and preparing your skin for the cooler temps. The change in seasons can be a shock to the health of the epidermis. As the air becomes drier, so does our skin, leaving it feeling tight, flaky, even red and over sensitized. Simple changes in our skincare regime can return it to a state of balance and even combat the damage it endured over the summer months. Moisturize Change up your moisturizer- swap out a lighter moisturizer for one slightly heavier and creamier. If you have oily skin, you may have skipped moisturizer all together during the summer. Those with more mature skin may have opted for a lighter formula as heavy creams lead to sweating or makeup slipping, but as the air cools and become drier, you may need a more intense dose of moisture. Moisturizer recommendation- Person & Covey Facial Moisturizer Topix Ultra Lite Moisture Dew Cream Exfoliate Oil-based scrubs are great in fall because they exfoliate and hydrate your skin. While everyone should be exfoliating year round, many people do not think about it until they are experiencing flaky rough patches or are trying to conceal their hyperpigmentation and freckles caused by damaging UV rays. Cleansing devices, leave on treatments and exfoliating mask are all effective in removing dead skin buildup while also combating dull or discoloration in the skin. Exfoliation recommendations- FOREO Luna Peter Thomas Roth Strawberry Exfoliating Scrub Avivi Invigorate Body Scrub Protect Don't skin the SPF! UVA and UVB rays are present year-round, not just during the warm summer months. We are affected by UV damage no matter the temperature or how bright the sun seems. Whether it is sitting by an office window, driving in the car or participating in outdoor fall activities you are being exposed to damaging UV rays. The majority of UVA rays penetrate through cloud cover. Sun protection recommendations- Murad Correcting Moisturizer SPF 15 La Roche-Posay Anthelios 50 Anti-aging Primer Hand Care Hands often become dry and cracked during fall and winter so stay ahead with a moisturizing hand cream. Hand cream recommendations- Bliss High Intensity Hand Cream DCL Peptide Plus Hand Cream There is no need to commit to one product or skin care routine year round. Your skin’s health can be improved when you change your skincare with the changing seasons.
Skincare has always been a mystery for some of us, there are so many products out there and it’s hard to tell what will work best for you and what you really need in your late twenties. Well consider this your quick reference guide to the top 13 products every lady in their late twenties needs. Avene Classic Daily Sun Care for an ultra hydrating sunscreen for those of us who find other sunscreens drying. Another great sunscreen that does EVERYTHING; IPKN Pore Apple Sun Creme which is great under makeup because one of its features other than sun protection is makeup base. Glytone Improve Anti-Aging Eye Cream : This product means business and good thing too! This eye cream is sure to help fight any signs of aging around the eyes, like puffiness and wrinkles. Nip And Fab No Needle Fix Serum, is a must have not only to combat any signs of sagging skin or unwanted wrinkles but this product will also leave your skin ultra-hydrated and glowing! For the reset of your body try this quick absorbing moisturizer Replenix By Topix Green Tea Antioxidant Moisturizing Lotion to keep your skin barrier healthy and give your skin a healthy dose of antioxidants. Retexturing may sound foreign to you but is a must! Retexturing can help with rough dry skin, give you a healthy glow and aid in getting rid of those small bumps some of us experience just under our skin. Try Clearista Retexturizing Gel for almost instant results! If you are looking to pull the dirt and oil out of your pores (which you are, because smaller pores means more flawless looking skin) look no further than Dr. Brandt Pores No More : Vacuum Cleaner. This product really is a vacuum for all that dirt and oil and the difference after using this product is amazing! For those of us who want our cleanser to be gentle, yet strong enough to remove all dirt and makeup without over drying our skin, there is  Avene Gentle Milk Cleanser for that. Oh, and it is a no rinse formula, you just wipe it off. Skin care doesn’t get much easier than that! Now, if you really love anti-aging ( and we all do, it is never too early to start fighting the signs of aging) you need LifeCell PH Balanced Anti-Aging Cleanser in your life. This cleanser is gentle enough to fight inflammation associated with rosacea  yet powerful enough to tighten and depuff skin all while balancing the PH level of skin to leave it with the perfect healthy glow. Peter Thomas Roth Anti-Aging Cleansing Gel, is a marvelous cleanser. While it is not recommended for people with certain skin conditions, this cleansing gel is great for people with pretty normal, fairly insensitive skin. This gel will exfoliate, tighten, tone, speed cell turnover, AND remove makeup. It’s pretty much a one stop shop for your cleansing needs. Now, if you are looking for a simple, easy, everyday, go to product to moisturize your skin but still want it to be A-MA-ZING, Topix Ultra Lite Moisture Dew Cream is the cream for you. This oil free cream is great for almost every skin type, and uses aloe to soothe and hydrate the skin. Primer is something often overlooked or seen as unnecessary but I say, primer is important. Primer is the last thing that goes on your skin before makeup and can make all the difference in your skin health. So with that in mind Skindinavia Makeup Primer Spray is a killer primer spray that will help lock in moisture as well as reduce pore size and redness. Last and certainly not least is foundation. Now foundation is makeup and a lot of you may not consider it skincare, however there are some great foundations on the market that not only serve as makeup, but help to nourish and beautify the skin while being worn. One such product is Michael Marcus Cosmetics Anti-Aging Foundation which offers beautiful coverage while firming, hydrating, and allowing more oxygen to the skin that other foundations.   With the aid of these products, you’re sure to get a handle on what you need in your late twenties to help keep your skin looking flawless, young, and fresh!     Blog Written by askderm's Beauty Blogger Sydney Nichole is a self-proclaimed beauty nerd.  She stays on top of the latest makeup, hair, and beauty trends. Yes, it’s true! What you put in your body shows up on your face, and for that reason we should all be aware of foods that we can eat or eat MORE of to give our skin an extra boost from the inside out. Discover these 7 foods that boost great skin care. It won’t be hard to work these delicious yet skin healthy foods into your diet. Discover some tips and tricks on how to incorporate these skin-healthy foods both into your diet and skin care (because playing with food is fun too)! #1 - Strawberries, Blueberries, and Kiwi These fruits and berries make the list because not only are they oh so yummy, they also have a lot of vitamin C and antioxidants which are key in keeping your skin looking its best. Vitamin C stimulates the production of collagen which keeps the skin looking young by plumping it up and eliminating fine lines and wrinkles. Not only does it boost collagen, the vitamins and antioxidants in these fruits combat free radicals which are not only unhealthy in general, but make your skin look older by causing skin damage. For a quick boost, throw some of these bad boys into a salad or a smoothie. Better yet, enjoy them by the handful as a healthy snack. #2 - Pumpkin Consuming pumpkin regularly means you are consuming beta-carotene or as your body likes to call it, vitamin A. Vitamin A is important to the skin because it helps the body produce new skin cells. When your skin cell turnover is good, you end up with softer, brighter, less wrinkled skin! This is the perfect excuse to eat more of those pumpkin treats we all love in the fall. Just make sure it has REAL pumpkin in it and isn’t just “pumpkin flavored.” Exfoliate with Peter Thomas Roth's Clinical Peel & Reveal that is formulated with a pumpkin enzyme to naturally sweep pore clogging dead skin cells. Reveal dramatically rejuvenated, revitalized and radiant skin. #3 - Green Tea Putting green tea on here might seem like old news, but it is such good news so I had to! I would literally try green tea anything, so good news for me and for rest of the green tea lovers; it's good for your skin! Green tea, like our first foods on the list, fights free radicals that can cause premature aging and skin cancer. Additionally, it is an anti-inflammatory, so say goodbye to redness and inflamed acne. Green tea is also my favorite substitute for coffee, so whether you are trying to cut back on the coffee intake or you just prefer tea, opt for green tea next time and watch those little leaves go to work! Enjoy the benefits of green tea with the Green Tea Antioxidant Moisturizing Lotion by Replenix. This antioxidant blend includes Green Tea Polyphenols, Caffeine, Bisabolol to smooth and soothe dry, irritated skin. #4 - Olive Oil …And all the pasta lovers rejoiced! Now, olive oil is one I prefer to use topically just because it has so many applications that way and the variety of masks and scrubs seems almost endless. However, putting it on pasta or in salads is also very beneficial. Olive oil has tons of anti-aging antioxidants and is, of course, super hydrating. So next time you think about cooking in butter, grab the olive oil instead (cold pressed olive oil, actually) and splash it on salads and pasta instead of using dressings and sauces high in sugars and fats. Remove make-up, sweep away dirt and oil and visibly reduce the appearance of enlarged pores with Rodial's Super Acids X-Treme Pore Shrink Cleansing Pads. Your skin will be instantly refreshed from the blend of gentle apple amino acids mixed with olive oil and salicylic acid. #5 -Chia Seeds These little seeds have been taking the health food world by storm. For a while, I swear, I heard a new thing that chia seeds could do for you, every day for two weeks straight! But hey, I jumped on the chia seed bandwagon, and I think everyone should. Look out beauty world, chia seeds are moving in! Why? Because these little guys have tons of antioxidants, omega 3 fatty acids, potassium, phosphorus, and chia oil is great if your skin needs a moisture boost (and is good for sensitive skin also). All these good things and so much more is what makes the chia seed great for combating acne, redness, wrinkles, it helps balance skin and helps keep it looking soft and smooth. You can put these seeds in smoothies, make a chia seed pudding (Google it and thank me later), put them in salads and even in drinks that you don’t mind a little bit of texture in. Lastly, as a little bonus and word to the wise, try to make sure to avoid consuming too many dairy products; the hormones in dairy can cause acne and inflammation (I'm talking about you, ice cream). Also, aim for foods low on the glycemic index, which measures how quickly carbs are turned into glucose in the body. Foods high on the glycemic index are bad because they cause your blood sugar to spike and can cause inflammation and breakouts along with other problems… it’s just not good! Mostly remember this, as I said before, what you put in your body shows up on your face. So just make sure to eat a well-rounded and healthy diet, stock up on ingredients that are skin loving and enjoy beautiful, healthy skin all year long!       Blog Written by askderm's Beauty Blogger Sydney Nichole is a self-proclaimed beauty nerd.  She stays on top of the latest makeup, hair, and beauty trends. I have always loved the holidays. I’m happiest when I’m with my family and friends and that is the best part for me during holiday celebrations. The second best thing obviously is all the delicious foods! We have a traditional American Thanksgiving dinner at my inlaws’ home and at my family’s home they add a little twist to just a turkey…we include our favorite Puerto Rican holiday dishes which is absolutely my favorite! With lots of celebrating comes lots of sugary sweets as we always have numerous deserts but also our traditional gingerbread house competition with my children, my younger cousins and my nieces and nephew. Us adults sip on mimosas, wine or my Spanish favorite ‘Coquito’ which like any alcohol dehydrates your skin as well as creates puffiness. Many of the foods you will eat this holiday season contains lots of salt which will make you retain fluid, and those sugary sweets and oils will do a number on your skin. So after all your holiday celebrations take some time to detox your skin for a cleaner, fresh new look. Your skin will thank you. Drink Plenty of Water…You must drink a minimum of 8-10 glasses of water daily to flush out any toxins that your body is storing. One trick I love is adding cucumber and mint in mine so it hydrates inside and out, detoxifies, and gives your skin a better complexion.   Start Drinking Green Tea…I personally drink mine cold but Green Tea is an amazing Antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, rids excess fluids, hydrates and reduces redness.   Have Green Foods…Spinach, Kale, Avocados are all packed with antioxidants as well as vitamins A, B, C and E.   Take Your Vitamins…Besides always taking a multivitamin, you should really consider adding a few more vitamins to your routine…B-Complex helps skin, hair and nails and has inflammatory properties. Vitamin C helps the production of collagen while improving skin’s texture. Vitamin A repairs skin tissues. Vitamin E gives your skin a nice glow leaving it soft and healthy.   Dry Brushing Every Morning… you’ve probably heard about this all over, even your favorite celebrities take part of this beauty routine with all its added benefits. Before showering dry brush in circular motions which helps reduce puffiness, improves circulation, reduces cellulite, releases toxins, stimulates your lymphatic system and encourages cell renewal as well as give you a nice exfoliation ridding you of dry skin.   Have A Good Detoxifying Cleanser…just like your skin’s texture changes from one day to the next so does your skin care needs. After large meals your skin has lots of toxins coming out that need to be released (have you heard of the saying the meat sweats?!) A good Detoxifying Cleanser will not only clean your face thoroughly it will also help in ridding the toxins from your skin. Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber De-Tox Foaming Cleanser Use A Detoxifying Clay Mask A Few Times A Week…just like the cleanser that helps remove skin impurities, the clay mask is good for all skin types and will not only suck up excess oil but remove any lingering toxins from your skin. Clarisonic Deep Pore Detoxifying Clay Mask $28.00 Have A Trusty Toner On Hand…You should always carry a trusty toner with you. I have one in my purse, my bathroom, my workout bag, my beach bag…you name it, I have it! Toners are great since not only do they remove dirt and residue from your skin, it also balances your skin’s natural PH levels which leave you with smooth, calm, healthy skin. derma e Purifying Toner Mist $15.50  With many holiday parties, feasts and gatherings coming up, all you can do is enjoy yourself and spending time with those you love and care about. So as you’re sipping on that glass of champagne or eating that peanut butter pumpkin pie, just try to make sure you keep your skin clear and healthy by detoxing it after any type of gathering.
