Walking through the makeup aisle in a store or browsing makeup products online can be a pretty daunting task. As an askderm product specialist, one of the most common makeup questions we get it is, what is the real difference between a BB and CC cream? Let’s get straight to the facts.  What is a BB cream? A BB (a.k.a. beauty balm) cream is a tinted moisturizer that does much more than act as a foundation. It also provides your skin with much needed benefits such as anti-aging effects, sun protection, and hydration for dry skin. But my favorite part is the coverage that a BB cream provides. I tend to have small breakouts every now and then that I want to cover up. With a BB cream, I can apply it to my face to give me full-coverage without the heavy foundation feeling. The key benefits to using a BB cream are: It’s a lighter, tinted foundation Great for all skin types Includes SPF to help fight the sun’s harmful rays Some BB creams I suggest using are: VICHY Laboratories ProEVEN Mineral BB Cream La Roche-Posay Effaclar BB Blur Rodial BB Venom Skin Tint Brandt Signature BB Cream With Flexitone LifeCell BB Cream Hydrating Anti-Oxidant Beauty Balm SPF 30 What is a CC cream? A CC (a.k.a. color correcting) cream works to restore your skin’s natural tone, especially for those who suffer from redness or any other color related issues. Not only is it an effective moisturizer, it also has a higher SPF for all you beach goers. And we all know that with added sun protection also comes anti-aging properties. A CC cream has a thicker consistency than a BB cream, which allows it to treat wrinkles and fine line The key benefits to using a CC cream are: It works to even the skins tone and correct complexion Has powerful anti-aging properties Keeps your skin hydrated while treating Some CC creams I suggest using are: Nip and Fab CC Cream SPF La Roche-Posay Rosaliac CC Crème Broad Spectrum SPF 30 La Bella Donna CC Cream Phytomer CC Crème - Skin Perfecting Cream Brandt CC Glow with Signature Ruby Crystal What should you use? If you’re looking for a light, tinted moisturizer to act as a foundation, than a BB cream is right for you. But, if your looking for a moisturizer to either correct color related issues or to help fight aging, add a CC cream to your daily skincare routine. Whether you decide to get a BB or CC cream, you will be treating your skin like never before. Give yourself a noticeably flawless look that everyone will stop and stare at.

Winter is in full swing and with this comes scaly, parched and flaking skin. No run of the mill watery lotions will do. Winter skin dryness happens to all skin types due to cold temperatures, harsh indoor heating, & gusty winds. Give your winter skin care routine a makeover with my (askderm's in-house Esthetician) top picks to protect and hydrate even the driest of winter skin. Elta MD Moisturizer: This petroleum-based salve melts in to relieve the driest of skin conditions such as eczema and atopic dermatitis while being safe enough for post procedure use. Moisture is retained for 12 hours within this waterproof formula. This is a limited ingredient product meaning it is ideal for sensitive or allergy prone skin types. Cerave Hydrating Cleanser: The notion of a cleanser aiding in hydration may be odd, but this product is a winter must! My doctor first introduced me to this cleanser. My profession requires constant hand washing, which can take its toll. My hands were over sensitized from multiple product exposure causing them to be patchy, red and itchy accompanied by cracking knuckles. This cleanser healed my hands! Developed to repair the protective acid mantle of the skin using MVE (Multivesicular emulsion) technology, meaning, nourishing moisture is time-released in multi-layers. This cleanser can be used for the entire face and body. Elon Herbal Foot Cream: In a recent study, New York University Medical Center concluded that this cream was more effective for healing the skin than leading prescription drugs! Quickly cracked sore heals are soothed with botanicals and healed with emollient ingredients. This cream is safe for those with diabetes. Acure Line Erase Argan Oil + Starflower: This certified organic, multipurpose balm not only works on deep wrinkles and scars but also heals the driest skin. Beeswax, along with argan oil, olive oil, and starflower oil soothe and hydrate. It can be used on over sensitized eyelids and also as a cuticle cream. Coola Liplux SPF 30 Original: Water loss from the skin occurs faster on the lips than other areas of the body. This is due to how thin the skin of the lips are, combined with the fact that the lips do not have the same oil glands as the rest of the body to lubricate themselves. UV damage is quite common for the lips so combining a moisturizer with an SPF is ideal. This water resistant lip balm is perfect for anyone enjoying outdoor winter activities. Fruit butters and coconut oil hydrate and protect the skin from the elements.   Blog Written by askderm's in-house Esthetician  Chantal Monique is a NYS licensed Esthetician and Makeup Artist. Skincare has always been a mystery for some of us, there are so many products out there and it’s hard to tell what will work best for you and what you really need in your late twenties. While you may be able to figure out your taxes and cook worthwhile meals, you may be wondering what products you really need to help you look as great as you feel! Well consider this your quick reference guide to the top 13 products every lady in their late twenties needs. Avene Classic Daily Sun Care for an ultra hydrating sunscreen for those of us who find other sunscreens drying. While many of us forget this incredibly important step, it’s really time we up our SPF game to keep our skin looking beautiful and protect against harsh UV rays. Another great sunscreen that does EVERYTHING; IPKN Pore Apple Sun Creme which is great under makeup because one of its features other than sun protection is makeup base. Glytone Improve Anti-Aging Eye Cream : This product means business and good thing too! This eye cream is sure to help fight any signs of aging around the eyes, like puffiness and wrinkles. Nip And Fab No Needle Fix Serum, is a must have not only to combat any signs of sagging skin or unwanted wrinkles but this product will also leave your skin ultra-hydrated and glowing! For the reset of your body try this quick absorbing moisturizer Replenix By Topix Green Tea Antioxidant Moisturizing Lotion to keep your skin barrier healthy and give your skin a healthy dose of antioxidants. Retexturing may sound foreign to you but is a must! Retexturing can help with rough dry skin, give you a healthy glow and aid in getting rid of those small bumps some of us experience just under our skin. Try Clearista Retexturizing Gel for almost instant results! If you are looking to pull the dirt and oil out of your pores (which you are, because smaller pores means more flawless looking skin) look no further than Dr. Brandt Pores No More : Vacuum Cleaner. This product really is a vacuum for all that dirt and oil and the difference after using this product is amazing! For those of us who want our cleanser to be gentle, yet strong enough to remove all dirt and makeup without over drying our skin, there is  Avene Gentle Milk Cleanser for that. Oh, and it is a no rinse formula, you just wipe it off. Skin care doesn’t get much easier than that! Now, if you really love anti-aging ( and we all do, it is never too early to start fighting the signs of aging) you need LifeCell PH Balanced Anti-Aging Cleanser in your life. This cleanser is gentle enough to fight inflammation associated with rosacea  yet powerful enough to tighten and depuff skin all while balancing the PH level of skin to leave it with the perfect healthy glow. Peter Thomas Roth Anti-Aging Cleansing Gel, is a marvelous cleanser. While it is not recommended for people with certain skin conditions, this cleansing gel is great for people with pretty normal, fairly insensitive skin. This gel will exfoliate, tighten, tone, speed cell turnover, AND remove makeup. It’s pretty much a one stop shop for your cleansing needs. Now, if you are looking for a simple, easy, everyday, go to product to moisturize your skin but still want it to be A-MA-ZING, Topix Ultra Lite Moisture Dew Cream is the cream for you. This oil free cream is great for almost every skin type, and uses aloe to soothe and hydrate the skin. Primer is something often overlooked or seen as unnecessary but I say, primer is important. Primer is the last thing that goes on your skin before makeup and can make all the difference in your skin health. So with that in mind Skindinavia Makeup Primer Spray is a killer primer spray that will help lock in moisture as well as reduce pore size and redness. Last and certainly not least is foundation. Now foundation is makeup and a lot of you may not consider it skincare, however there are some great foundations on the market that not only serve as makeup, but help to nourish and beautify the skin while being worn. One such product is Michael Marcus Cosmetics Anti-Aging Foundation which offers beautiful coverage while firming, hydrating, and allowing more oxygen to the skin that other foundations.   With the aid of these products, you’re sure to get a handle on what you need in your late twenties to help keep your skin looking flawless, young, and fresh!     Blog Written by askderm's Beauty Blogger Sydney Nichole is a self-proclaimed beauty nerd.  She stays on top of the latest makeup, hair, and beauty trends.
