National Sun Safety Week – Skincare Tips

Summer may not officially start until June 20th but the days are longer, the nights shorter, and the weather is warming up. When it comes to preparing your skin for the sun, you should always take the necessary precautions to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays.

National Sun Safety Week Tips
1. Insect repellants reduce sunscreen’s SPF. When using both sunscreen & insect repellant be sure to use a higher SPF.

2. Seek shade when appropriate. Always remember that the sun’s rays are strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

3. Not all sunglasses are created equal. Always choose sunglasses that are labeled as blocking 99-100% of UV rays.

4. Generously apply sunscreen and re-apply at least every two hours. Remember to reapply after swimming or sweating.

5. Avoid tanning beds. UV light from tanning beds can lead to skin cancer and wrinkling. Consider using a sunless self-tanning product instead.

6. Stay Hydrated. As the temperatures start to rise it is easier to become dehydrated. Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
